I think it’s possible to enjoy luxury items without sacrificing your values.
For so long I felt uninspired and limited in my choice to live a more mindful and environmentally focused life. I began to research and have a better understanding of not only what it can mean to shop with a purpose but also how to shop and what to look for.
Nothing is perfect but I hope that I can show you that you can still shop the styles you love (and even brands) while reducing your impact on people and the planet. From designer items made from recycled material to secondhand pieces, shopping with a conscience doesn’t mean giving up your style.
The Criteria* :
Environment
Documented commitment and action taken regarding fair trade labour, environmentally responsible practices, minimal-zero use of animal derived materials
Information I look for includes but is not limited to;
certification(s) brand holds
transparent look into business model
majority materials used are naturally derived, (no plastic) think cotton, linen, hemp, tencel
all materials are responsibly produced
where is the product(s) made
plastic derived material comes from recycled material
Inclusivity
Does the brand show a range of representation
Are there sizes outside of the standard (xs, s, m, l)
Animals
Is the brand using any animal derived materials/ingredients?
if yes, where and how are they sourcing (again look for certifications/documentation)
what materials/ingredients are being used; furs, beeswax, etc
*this is an ongoing list as I continue to learn more and will probably (definitely) change over time. I hope this can be a space of open-mindedness, education and a common interest in elevated living without harm.
